Old Bean Bags New Bean Bags What's The Difference?   by MyFoofStore.com

Friends are over to see that new movie, play board games or to watch that great sporting event. Everyone grabs their snacks and drinks and get ready to enjoy the show or games. Seating is plentiful as some people grab a spot on the sofa, floor or folding chairs. You however were lucky, that fluffy bean bag chair that you have been eyeing is free and no one else seems to be making their way over to it. Quickly you rush over and sigh with relief as you realize that you were victorious in saving the bean bag chair that you want to sit on. The movie starts and everyone quiets down and you are the only one left standing. You quickly take a seat and CRUNCH!

If you have wondered what the difference is between the old and newer models of bean bag chairs are, noise would have be on the top of the list. Bean bags from the 60’s and 70’s pretty much look the same as they do now. The major difference is the filling that supported both types of bean bags and foof chairs.

Newer Bean Bags Mean Less Noise

The bean bags of the old days tended to make a lot of crunching noise when people sat on them. Considering that is what a bean bag chair was, I doubted many cared or even paid attention to someone making an embarrassing amount of noise as they sat down on a bean bag. Today however, people will look at you considering that is not a noise we are used to hearing when someone takes a seat. The memory foam that fills newer bean bags is much quieter than the sugar pellets once used as filling.

Old Bean Bags Were A Lot Messier

The sugar pellets, PVC and in rare cases sometimes dried beans, would eventually spill out of the fabric of the bean bag chairs because the material is not as great as it is today. Some people patched their own bean bag chairs by refilling them and sewing closed the rips and tears that would show up. This is never a good idea for faux leather type materials.

New Bean Bags Offer A Wide Range Of Selections

Bean bags chairs from 60’s were pretty much the same when you looked at them. The only difference between the older bean bag chairs were the colors for the most part. There were not as many different themes, shapes and sizes as there are today.

Old Bean Bags Deflate

Newer model bean bags deflate but not like the old days. The sugar pellets would even make the old bean bag chairs deflate as they were repeatedly crushed by people sitting on them. They were badly deflated and they looked like it. They also needed to be refilled with frequency because they deflated very fast. In contrast new bean bags will deflate over time but for a quick fix you can simply fluff them and they will be puffy once again. Even tually you will need to add some more filling but new chairs do not deflate anywhere near as much as the old bean bags.

Having a bean bag from 60’s is great as a piece of furniture to showcase in your home but keep it as an old relic to be looked at. For comfy seating, a newer bean bag chair or sofa is definitely the way to go.
